Portfolio Management FAQs

Direct answers about discretionary portfolio management, fees, registration, account structures, and getting started. Education first. A direct conversation when the facts of your situation matter.

TK Dale Wealth Management Inc. is registered as a Portfolio Manager with the Ontario Securities Commission, serving Ontario residents from Newmarket.

The essentials

What people ask us first.

What does a Portfolio Manager do?

A Portfolio Manager manages investments under a written mandate you approve. In a discretionary relationship, the Portfolio Manager makes day-to-day decisions within that mandate and remains accountable for them.

Is TK Dale Wealth registered?

TK Dale Wealth Management Inc. is registered as a Portfolio Manager with the Ontario Securities Commission. Registration does not imply the OSC has endorsed or approved the firm or its services.

What is discretionary portfolio management?

It is a regulated relationship in which you give written authority for investments to be managed within agreed objectives, time horizon, and risk tolerance. You approve the mandate before decisions are made.

Do I approve every trade?

No. A discretionary mandate allows the Portfolio Manager to make routine investment decisions within the boundaries you approved. If you want to approve every trade, this may not be the right relationship.

Where are my assets held?

Client assets are held in your name at an independent third-party custodian. TK Dale Wealth manages the investments; the custodian holds the assets.

How does TK Dale Wealth charge for portfolio management?

TK Dale Wealth charges an asset-based management fee for discretionary portfolio management. The applicable fee and service scope are explained in writing before you decide whether to proceed.

Why are fee percentages not published online?

A percentage without the account structure, services, and circumstances behind it can create a false comparison. We explain the applicable fee and relevant costs directly before you make a commitment.

Are there costs beyond the management fee?

Depending on the arrangement, investment-level expenses, account charges, or transaction costs may apply. We identify relevant costs so you can assess the full picture before proceeding.

Is there a minimum portfolio size?

There is no published minimum. Fit is about the complexity of your situation and whether discretionary management is the right tool, not an arbitrary number.

Do you provide retirement planning?

Yes. Retirement planning includes the work of turning savings into income, considering account drawdown, income needs, and portfolio risk through retirement. It is coordinated with the investment mandate.

Can you guarantee that my portfolio will not lose money?

No. All investing involves risk, including the possible loss of capital. Our job is to manage risk deliberately within the mandate you approve, not promise outcomes.

Who will I work with?

You work directly with Trevor Dale, CFA, Portfolio Manager. He is responsible for your strategy, your mandate, and the ongoing relationship.

Do you work with clients outside Newmarket?

Yes. The firm is based in Newmarket and serves Ontario residents, including clients across York Region and the GTA. Meetings can take place in person or virtually.

What account types can be managed?

The right accounts depend on your situation and the available custody arrangements. During an intro conversation, we can discuss registered, non-registered, personal, corporate, and other relevant account structures without assuming a one-size-fits-all answer.

How do I get started?

Start with a direct, no-obligation intro call. We learn about your situation and constraints, and you learn how the relationship, responsibilities, and costs work.

What happens after the intro call?

If there is mutual fit, the next step is to gather the information needed to build a written mandate. You review and approve the terms before the portfolio is managed.

How often will we review the relationship?

The portfolio is monitored continuously within the mandate, with regular reporting and review as your circumstances change. The right cadence depends on what is happening in your life and accounts.

Straight terms

A direct answer is the beginning, not a substitute for understanding your situation.

We will explain how the relationship works, what it costs, and what discretionary management can and cannot do. All investing involves risk, including the possible loss of capital.

We will not promise performance or pretend every household needs the same solution. If this is not the right tool, we will say so.
